The Risk Of The Power Battery Reuse Business
Mar 09, 2023
Power battery reuse and recycling are relatively less considered links in China's new energy vehicle industry chain, and the treatment of huge power lithium batteries brought about by the gradual industrialization of new energy vehicles has become an urgent problem. According to the results of CCID Jingzhi research, it is expected that in 2015, the cumulative scrap of power lithium batteries will be about 20,000-40,000 tons, and by 2020, the cumulative scrap of power lithium batteries for new energy vehicles in China will reach 12-170,000 tons. Such a huge amount of battery recycling requires research on the power lithium battery reuse business and business model exploration in advance.
The reuse of power lithium batteries is uncertain. Although the battery data provided by power lithium battery companies shows that the batteries eliminated by new energy vehicles will retain 70-80% of the effective energy, and have a strong advantage in cost, the battery still faces many challenges in the field of utilization and mainly concentrated energy storage. China's energy storage batteries are still concentrated in communication base station energy storage and UPS energy storage such as large data centers and banks, and the mainstream energy storage method is still lead-acid batteries, and there is still uncertainty in the replacement of power lithium battery reuse in these fields. In addition, for new energy energy storage, it is also limited by the state's support in the field of new energy distributed generation.
