Effect of temperature conditions on PACK batteries

Oct 20, 2023

For PACK battery temperature, it mainly affects the activity of the pole material inside the battery and the electrolyte performance. Too high and too low temperatures have a greater impact on battery capacity.

At low temperatures, the activity of the battery is significantly reduced, the ability to embed and extract lithium is reduced, the internal resistance and polarization voltage of the battery are increased, the actual available capacity is reduced, the battery discharge capacity is reduced, the discharge platform is low, and the battery is more likely to reach the discharge cut-off voltage, which is manifested as follows: The available battery capacity is reduced and the battery energy utilization efficiency is reduced.

When the temperature rises, the detachment and insertion of lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes become active, so the internal resistance of the battery decreases and the internal resistance stabilization time becomes longer, which increases the amount of electron migration in the external circuit and improves the capacity more effectively. play. However, if the battery works in a high-temperature environment for a long time, the stability of the positive electrode lattice structure will become worse, the safety of the battery will be reduced, and the life of the battery will be significantly shortened.

Therefore, both high and low temperatures will affect the performance and service life of lithium iron phosphate batteries. During actual operation, methods such as increasing battery thermal management should be used to ensure that the battery operates under appropriate temperature conditions. A 25°C constant temperature testing room can be established during the battery pack PACK testing process.
